She hosts an annual training in Cleveland with in depth training for health care providers regarding the value of kangaroo care (skin-to-skin). Nils Bergman is a physician in South Africa and a renowned  international expert on the value of skin-to-skin. Some of his most important contributions are regarding the neuroscience of birth. He and his wife Jill have been long-tiime champions of skin-to-skin and their website Kangaroomothercare.com is a great resource for trainings, articles, and DVDs to improve understanding and access to skin-to-skin for all babies.

Magical Hour

The Magical Hour website has a DVD and other available educational materials about the 9 instinctive stages that are innate in babies and activated when babies are in skin-to-skin. With an understanding of these 9 stages healthcare providers can better support breastfeeding by not interfering with this natural process with often well-meaning breastfeeding instruction.  

Baby Friendly USA

Baby-Friendly is an internationally recognized certification for hospitals and birth centers. The work of this organization has been invaluable in promoting best-practices that result in improved breastfeeding outcomes. BFI has long been a champion of immediate skin-to-skin. Baby-Friendly USA, Inc. (BFUSA) is the accrediting body and the national authority for the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative in the United States.
